shopping

Stocking up, sampling local produce or just for the love of shopping

Although we are in the heart of the French countryside, there are plenty of opportunities nearby to shop for the finest French produce from artisan wines and cheeses to designer goods.

Ouarante

The following are all available in the village: Boulangerie (closed Wednesdays), two butchers and two mini-markets (one opposite the church and the other opposite the schools). When the Ouarante Boulangerie is closed, try nearby Creissan or Argeliers – these are both closed on Mondays.

Supermarkets

Capestang lntermarche, Argeliers lntermarche Contact, Narbonne Carrefour.

Wine

Some of the finest wines are readily available in all the supermarkets and to buy direct from the village caves:
Argeliers Cave Co-operative, 10 Av Pierre de Coubertin, 11120 Argeliers
Cebazan Cave Co-operative, RN112, 34360 Cebazan
Ouarante Salies, Demaine de Salies, 34310 Ouarante
Ouarante Terres2Freres, 12 Route de Saint Privat, 34310 Ouarante

Wine tasting sessions are also very popular and readily available in most of the local vineyards.

Markets

There are a huge number of outdoor markets in the area … it’s a French thing, every village seems to have them.

They tend to have a wide range of fresh groceries and local produce, textiles and ironmongery. Here are a few local ones that are worth a visit:

Capestang – Sunday
Narbonne – Thursday
Puisserguier – Friday
Saint Chinian – Thursday and Sunday

The indoor market in the centre of Narbonne is also open every morning (excluding Sunday) and is well worth a visit.

Clothes shopping

If you need to pick up a few items at a reasonable price pop to the Polygon at Beziers (also open Sundays through August).
